PACE

Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) is the Scottish Government's initiative for responding to redundancy situations. Through providing skills development and employability support, PACE aims to minimise the time individuals affected by redundancy are out of work.

Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE)

Overview

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) leads on the delivery of PACE on behalf of the Scottish Government in conjunction with a number of other partner organisations including the Department for Work and Pensions and local authorities. In addition to the National PACE Team, there are 18 local PACE Teams across Scotland to facilitate a speedy and effective response.

PACE offers free and impartial advice and is available to all individuals affected by redundancy, no matter the size of the business nor how many employees are involved. PACE also works with insolvency practitioners to provide support where a business has gone into administration or liquidation.

For Individuals

PACE support is tailored to meet individual needs and local circumstances and includes:

  • one to one counselling
  • information on rights and entitlements
  • benefits entitlement and tax calculation
  • help with job search
  • CV writing, application forms and covering letters
  • preparation for interviews
  • identifying learning and training opportunities
  • starting up a business
  • making the most of your money
  • coping with redundancy related stress.

For employees it means free, impartial advice on dealing with the practical and emotional sides of redundancy. PACE advisers help people recognise their skills, explore their options and prepare for their next move.

And because PACE supports companies across Scotland, the partnership can often connect businesses looking to hire new people with those making redundancies.

PACE plays a vital role, supporting people through what can be one of the most stressful periods of their working lives.

For Employers

For employers this means support for businesses of any size, no matter how many employees are involved. It’s free of charge, and helps take away some of the strain of dealing with redundancy.

To Get Support

PACE support has always been available through the PACE Helpline 0800 917 8000 and online at https://careers.myworldofwork.co.uk/career-advice/facing-redundancy and continues to be so. However, given the restrictions in place on face to face support due to Covid-19, we have continued to provide PACE support remotely through the PACE Helpline, through Teams and Webinars and through enhanced online resources, as shown below.
